Professor Thomas Havas' Expertise
Professor Havas is the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital. He is one of Australia's most highly trained and extensively published Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons.
After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, his postgraduate training initially was in the major teaching hospitals of Sydney and he obtained his fellowship of The Royal Australasian College Of Surgeons in 1985.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, The Royal College Surgeons of Edinburgh and The American College of Surgeons. He is an acknowledged national and international expert in microlaryngeal and laser surgery, surgical treatment of Head and Neck cancers, paediatric airway reconstruction, nose and sinus surgery, and cosmetic and functional Rhinoplasty.
As one of the most experienced Ear Nose and Throat Specialists in Australia, Professor Thomas Havas established Havas ENT Clinics in 1994.
Experience

Extensive post fellowship training at the University of Toronto, initially at the Hospital for Sick Children as 'Senior Fellow in Paediatric Otolaryngology' and thereafter, Professor Thomas Havas was 'The Fellow in Head and Neck Oncology' at Toronto General Hospital for a year and a half.

A research job in Nasal Physiology at the Gage Research Institute in Toronto.

Worked extensively in the United States and had visiting Fellowships at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and at Stanford Medical Centre.

Upon return to Australia, he was appointed Visiting Otolaryngologist at Sydney Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital and The Prince Of Wales Public Hospital.

Became an Associate Professor in 2001 by the University of New South Wales and obtained his Doctorate of Medicine (M.D) from the University of New South Wales in 2004 for his work on Rhinology and Sinus Surgery.

Resigned from the active staff of Sydney Children's Hospital in 2008 after 20 years as senior consultant in Paediatric Otolaryngology.

Currently chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Prince of Wales and Sydney Hospitals.

For over 20 years, he has been a major innovator, teacher and surgical mentor to several generations of emerging Otolaryngologists.
Publications

Professor Havas has published extensively in the Medical Literature with over 75 refereed publications, 25 non-refereed publications, numerous text book chapters, monograms, teaching videos and audio tapes.
