The exact cause of throat cancer is not known. But tobacco products are known to play a significant role in 80% of cases. In addition to the uses of tobacco, high risk factors involved:
Tobacco use including smoking or chewing of the tobacco;

  • Regular and heavy consumption of alcohol;
  • Poor dental hygiene;
  • Sexually transmitted virus called human papilloma virus or HPV;
  • A diet lacking in fruit and vegetable;
  • Exposure to irritants such as asbestos or irradiation;
  • Or a family history, that is to say a genetic predisposition to throat cancer.

Recently, evidence has merged that chronic reflux over a long period of in and of itself can cause throat cancer.

The common symptoms of throat cancer are prolonged loss of voice, pain on swallowing, difficulty of swallowing, and shortness of breath.
