Should I be concerned that my ulcer is not healing?

Non-healing Ulcer

Any ulcer in the mouth should cause you concern. The single most common cause of a significant painful non-healing ulcer is a cancer. You are much more likely to get a cancer if you smoke, drink, regularly use alcoholic mouthwashes, and or have any adult manifestation of the Human Papilloma or wart virus. Signs of concern on a non-healing ulcer on your tongue include:

  • If the edges are raised.
  • If it has a sloughing base.
  • If it is painful when you move your tongue.
  • If there is any associated bleeding.
  • If you have noticed a lump on your neck on the same side, be concerned.

For any non-healing ulcer in your mouth or on your tongue, please contact Havas ENT Clinics sooner rather than later. Early diagnosis leads to early treatment, which leads to much better long-term results.
