Turbinoplasty is an operation done to control allergic swelling of the lining in the nose. It is an alternative to a lifetime use of tablets or sprays to keep the nose patent.
It is done under general anaesthetic and involves introducing telescopes into the nostril and using powered instrumentation, laser, radio frequency or scissors to trim the lining over the lowest of the three turbinates, or baffle bones, in the nose.
The operation takes about 40 minutes of operating time and is usually performed as a day only procedure.
