Functional Rhinoplasty

During his overseas fellowship training, PROFESSOR HAVAS worked with Professors Will Goodman, Jerry Chapnick and Patrick Gullane, learning and refining the techniques of functional rhinoplasty.

Prof. Goodman introduced open structured rhinoplasty to North America and was the 1st to use autologous cartilege spreader grafts for the reconstruction of the internal nasal valve.

After learning the principles and techniques of functional rhinoplasty, Professor Havas spent some time with Prof. Peter Adamson, a leading North American Rhinoplasty and Cosmetic Surgeon.

Upon his return to Sydney, he was among the 1st to introduce the concept of functional rhinoplasty; form and function had to be married to achieve an optimal outcome, not only cosmetically and functionally, not only for the immediate postoperative period, but for many years down the line.

This concept of functional rhinoplasty has remained the cornerstone of the clinic's extensive experience in reconstructing and reshaping noses for a large number of satisfied individuals.

Secondary or revision rhinoplasty often needs to be undertaken when either the cosmetic or more commonly the functional result is unsatisfactory. The surgery is difficult, requires experience, empathy and understanding of the detailed anatomy and physiology of the nose; it is in these areas and in these cases the Professor Havas excels!

We have a large experience in secondary and augmentation rhinoplasty. Although our preference is always to use the patient's own cartilage, in cases where that is not appropriate or possible we have considerable experience with a variety of alloplasts to achieve maximal cosmetic and functional results.
