Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a procedure performed to cosmetically and functionally alter nasal shape and function.

It is done for a variety of reasons ranging from the purely cosmetic to the post-traumatic and the functional.

A/Professor Havas has an international reputation in open structure functional rhinoplasty. This is an operation done for complex cases of bent or twisted nose associated with difficulty in breathing or diminished sense of smell.

Rhinoplasty can be done either through the nostrils where there are no cuts (closed rhinoplasty) or through an open structure approach where a small incision is made in the root of the nose.

The operation is done under general anaesthetic, usually takes about 2 hours of operating time, and is associated with a splint on the nose for about a week and one night in hospital.

Over the last 20 years, A/Prof Havas has performed several thousand rhinoplasties.
