Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is performed to treat chronic sinusitis.
The technique is done under a general anaesthetic and involves introducing telescopes and a range of instruments through the nostril. There are no cuts, no bruisng, or black eyes.
The operation takes about 1 ½ hours. Nine out of ten cases wake up with no wadding or packing in the nose, approximately one in ten cases need some sort of absorbable pack left in the nostril overnight to control bleeding.
A/Professor Havas pioneered the introduction of this technique into Australia in the late 1980’s and he has personally performed over 8000 cases.
